appearance Upon first look, it is glaringly obvious that Mathias is half-elezen, half-hyur. With a stature far closer to a Midlander, but with slender, tipped ears, there's no mistaking his mixed blood. Blessed with thick, silky hair, the dark strands are cropped neatly and styled flawless. His dusky skin is usually flushed a healthy, rosy red at his cheeks and the tips of his ears. The half-elf is solid but lean, with whip-like properties, the man fond of tight angles and sharp silhouettes, all wrapped in the finest silks and corsets when he occupies center stage.
Demeanor Mathias is a man of two faces. The first, darling of the Luminis Opera House in Limsa Lominsa, who quickly became a renowned sopranist known across the star. The 'Lost Siren of Luminis' is sweet, humble and friendly to fans and strangers alike. The second face he bears is much darker and far more familiar to him: a pragmatic man fueled by rage, grief and hatred, and obsessed with revenge for the murders of his family by the Inquisition of Ishgard.

History
Mathias - then known as Eliott, was the youngest son of House Dieudonné, one of the larger, more wealthy and respected Houses in Ishgard with strong connections to the Church, with many of his family and ancestors having served in a variety of roles. Maintaining an excellent relationship to the Church had been a practice for generations, for one important reason: access. While not heretics, House Dieudonné was sympathetic to those falsely-accused as being so and had long operated a network smuggling victims out from under the nose of Inquisitors and to various safe spaces.Until the day of Eliott's tenth birthday. They were in the midst of the fanciest of parties, with the entire family and many friends present, when the Inquisition and a contingent of Temple Knights stormed the estate grounds. Someone unknown had sold them out and he and his entire family were taken into custody. There was a swift, damning trial and a few days spent in the gentle care of the Inquisitors being questioned about those who had aided and abetted them.It was a bright, cold, clear morning when the family was brought to the Witchdrop. It had been decreed that any member of the family over the age of majority was to be thrown from the cliff. Eliott, being only ten, was the sole member of his family to survive that day. Made to witness as - from youngest to oldest - his siblings and beloved parents were, one by one, shoved off the edge, their screams from that day still haunt his nightmares. The family's considerable assets were seized by the Church, the estate razed to the ground and the name Dieudonné was publicly shamed and disgraced.The Church granted custody of Eliott to a Cardinal, an older man by the name of Achault Reausoix, with the expectation that he would... re-educate him, crushing the seeds of heretical belief and behavior his family had all too clearly planted in his mind and re-routing the course of his life to become a devout Brother of Halone. Achault was strict to the point of cruelty, forcing him to memorize and recite Scripture from the Enchiridion every morning and night, serve in the Church as a servant and attend every Mass. He tried multiple times to run away but was always caught and returned, locked away in his room.He hated Achault. He hated the Church. He hated Halone.When he was sixteen, he finally managed to get away successfully, leaving Ishgard and indeed Coerthas entirely. Stowing away aboard a ship bound for Vylbrand, he landed in Limsa Lominsa, penniless and alone. Lucky for him, he quickly discovered a talent for thievery and pickpocketing that granted him membership into the Thieves' Guild. He was taught how to fight, how to move in the crowds unseen, how to disguise himself, all while having his natural gifts honed.One day, he was sitting on the beach, singing to himself as he often did, when a Roegadyn woman overheard him. The Roe was an older, retired ship's captain named Marmbryda who had founded the Luminus Opera House, a concert hall famed across the star. Immediately recognizing the rare and raw potential of Eliott's voice, she approached and offered to train him as a sopranist. It didn't take him long to agree, so he gave the woman a fake name - Mathias Callais - and left the Thieves' Guild for the Luminis. For years, the half-elf was rigorously trained and eventually became a renown sopranist, known for his light, bright, sweet voice. He quickly acquired a devoted following, was often cast as the lead in the largest productions, with a fanciful story that he was a lost siren.He was the darling of the opera house, but in his heart, he nursed a deep, dark hatred for the Ishgardian Church that eventually drove him to leave The Luminis - though still remaining close with Marmbryda - and return to Ishgard, hiding his past and making a living singing for private, wealthy audiences, all while plotting ways to take his revenge.
